The Gulf of Georgia Cannery, built in 1894, interprets the West Coast fishing industry and is a National Historic Site. Britannia Shipyards preserves buildings and stories connected with cannery, boat-yard and residential life, including Chinese, European, Indigenous and Japanese workers and residents.
Allow at least half a day if you want to enter heritage sites instead of only walking the village. Garry Point is a natural final stop. Whale-watching tours also depart from Steveston, with Tourism Richmond identifying April through October as the peak season.

Best time and conditions
Late morning through early evening gives the most flexibility for food, heritage and waterfront walking. Wind can make the riverfront feel cooler than central Richmond. Summer weekends are busier, while shoulder seasons can be quieter but have shorter attraction hours.
Getting there and parking
Steveston is not on the Canada Line. Bus connections serve the village, while drivers should expect greater parking pressure on sunny weekends and festival days. Once parked, walking between the village, Cannery, Imperial Landing and Garry Point is usually more sensible than moving the vehicle repeatedly.
