Richmond visitor guide to YVR terminals, Canada Line, taxis, private transfers and airport-area planning.

RICHMOND, BRITISH COLUMBIA

What to know

Vancouver International Airport (YVR) is located on Sea Island in Richmond. The Canada Line station sits between the Domestic and International terminals and connects the airport with central Richmond and Vancouver.

YVR says Canada Line reaches downtown Richmond in about 18 minutes and downtown Vancouver in under 30 minutes. Passengers leaving YVR by Canada Line normally pay the regular fare plus the $5 YVR AddFare. Travel between Sea Island stations is free.

For taxis leaving YVR, the airport uses zone fares. The current YVR zone map lists $24 for Sea Island, $25 for North Richmond, $31 for Central Richmond, $35 for South Richmond/Steveston, $39 for North East Richmond, $40 for South East Richmond and $47 for Far East Richmond. YVR states that gratuities are not included and trips to YVR use metered fares.

For travellers comparing a pre-booked larger vehicle, Destiny Limousine currently publishes Richmond-to/from-YVR starting fares of $105 sedan, $110 SUV and $155 Sprinter on its airport fare table, before taxes, gratuity and applicable extras. Its Richmond service page separately shows all-in starting examples of $110 sedan, $115 SUV and $160 Sprinter. Because the two pages describe pricing differently, confirm the live quote before booking rather than treating either table as a guaranteed final fare.

Plan it step by step

  1. Choose one anchor district or attraction.
  2. Check current hours, fares, closures and weather.
  3. Add only nearby stops that fit the same route.
  4. Leave enough time for meals, parking, transit and unexpected delays.

These are provider-published starting fares, not City or YVR taxi fares. Taxes, gratuity and extras are described separately on the provider page. Confirm the live total before booking.

Build the trip around the flight

Airport planning should start with the required terminal arrival time, not the sightseeing wish list. Add baggage, check-in, security or immigration time first, then calculate whether a Richmond meal or short outing still fits comfortably.

Choosing transportation

Canada Line is usually strongest for travellers staying near stations with manageable luggage. Taxis and rideshare reduce transfers. A reserved sedan, SUV or van can make more sense for families, larger luggage loads, business schedules or groups that need one vehicle.

Airport-area geography

YVR is on Sea Island, separated from Lulu Island by the Middle Arm of the Fraser River. Bridgeport is the main Canada Line interchange for Richmond and Vancouver branches. A place described as being in Richmond can still require meaningful surface travel from the terminal.

Where to go: named Richmond recommendations

Use these as planning anchors. Hours, admission, programs and access can change, so verify time-sensitive details with the venue or official agency before travelling.

Richmond-Brighouse / Minoru

Where: Central Richmond

Why go: Best short city-centre option when a layover allows a Canada Line trip plus a conservative airport-return buffer.

Allow: 2–4 hours plus airport buffer

Pair with: Museum, gallery or meal

Golden Village / Aberdeen

Where: Aberdeen Station area

Why go: Strong choice when the goal is a Richmond meal rather than sightseeing across the city.

Allow: 2–3 hours plus airport buffer

Pair with: Alexandra Road dining

Steveston Village

Where: Southwest Richmond

Why go: Worth considering only with a generous layover because it requires surface travel beyond Canada Line.

Allow: 4–6+ hours plus airport buffer

Pair with: Cannery, harbour, Garry Point
